Mississippi OSHA Safety Training
OSHA Safety Training opportunities center around federal OSHA guidelines for Mississippi companies that strive to provide essential safety training for their employees. The courses provided are available both online, through self-paced computer training and on-site courses provided under the OSHA Outreach Training Program. Since Mississippi is not a State Plan state, employers operate under the federal guidelines established under the OSH Act of 1970. The OSHA General Duty Clause mandates that all companies provide a safe environment for their workers.
Under the Mississippi State Department of Health, the Occupational Health Surveillance Program develops surveillance systems to identify work-related injuries and support occupational health in the state’s workforce. OHSP endeavors to aid public health decision makers and public health users in Mississippi and to make them aware of and have access to occupational health and safety surveillance data. Through their compliance and surveillance program the Program tracks 21 Occupational Health indicators to keep abreast of changing focus areas.
OSHA Safety Training For Non-State Plan States – Mississippi
OSHA Safety Training is suggested and encouraged through the MSDH-OHSP and other state agencies, including local public health organizations. Mississippi is not an OSHA State Plan participant so while the Mississippi OHSP monitors workplace compliance, company compliance largely based in federal OSHA regulations, guidelines, rules and directives. OSHA established the OSHA Outreach Training Program to provide workers with an easy way to study and receive their OSHA Wallet Card. The course comes with access to a downloadable, FREE study guide. Once the course is completed and the final exam is passed, the student is allowed to print off a certificate of completion that may be accepted by job site management as your proof of successful achievement. The Department of Labor OSHA Wallet Card will arrive in the mail in a few weeks (usually four to six weeks).
Those Mississippi workers that need their OSHA Safety Training but are not in the construction industry, are encouraged to take the OSHA 10 Hour General Industry Training Course. This Nationally-Accepted course covers the essential training for workers that are in manufacturing, distribution, health care, institutions of education and other non-construction industries. Similarly, the 10 hour course can be taken on line and finished in a two-day time period (with up to 180 days maximum). The Department of Labor OSHA Wallet Card follows a few weeks later.
Mississippi OSHA Safety Training also has courses for supervisors, foremen, line managers and executives on basic safety and the principles of managing risk.
