REGULATIONS AND JURISDICTIONS

The state of California does have an approved OSHA State Plan certified August 19, 1977. The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) administers the California State Plan through Cal/OSHA. The main office is located in Oakland. The California State Plan covers all private sector places of employment within the state with some notable exceptions such as various maritime operations, private workers working on military properties, national parks, national monuments and national recreation areas. The California State Plan also applies to state and local government employers. It does not apply to federal government employers including the United States Postal Service. Federal OSHA covers the issues not covered by the California State Plan.
