OSHA Safety Training For All Vermont Industries Statewide

Vermont was originally inhabited by two Native American tribes, the Abenaki and the Iroquois. France picked up most of the territory known today as Vermont in the early colonial period, but later ceded the land to Great Britain after the French and Indian War (also known as the Seven Years War). After years of disputes over borders, the area became the Vermont Republic, only one of four U.S. states to be a sovereign state (along with Texas, California and Hawaii). In 1791, Vermont joined the United States as the 14th state.  The state’s economy is diverse, with government jobs leading all sectors, followed by real estate, manufacturing, health care and construction,

In February of 1977, OSHA certified Vermont’s state plan for health and safety management. The Vermont Occupational Safety and Health Program (VOSHA) is a part of the Vermont Department of Labor, Workers’ Compensation and Safety Division, with main offices in Montpelier, Vermont. You may view the Vermont State OSHA Plan here. The Vermont State Plan applies to all state and local government and private sector workplaces in the state, with the exception of federal government workers, the United States Postal Service, private sector maritime activities (shipyard employment, marine terminals, and longshoring), and military bases, which are subject to federal jurisdiction.

VOSHA has adopted most OSHA standards by reference. There are two state-specific standards in effect at this time:

  • Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs)
  • Line worker Safety

State workers are governed by Vermont  OSHA Safety Training laws for education and training purposes. Our OSHA Outreach Training programs for Construction and General Industry are designed to comply with all Vermont OSHA Safety Training criteria and are accepted in all 50 states, including Vermont.

Online or On-site Vermont OSHA Safety Training Available

With the advent of Vermont’s OSHA State Plan, state VOSHA officials are in charge of the enforcement of local and state safety regulations and directives. State regulators and inspectors encourage all workers to follow company mandates regarding essential safety training in construction, manufacturing, distribution, transportation and related industries. These add value to employees work product, reduce injuries and provide a safer environment in all areas.

For construction industry basic safety, our recommendation is the computer-based OSHA 10 Hour Construction Outreach Training Course.  For all non-construction jobs, the OSHA 10 Hour General Industry Outreach Training Course is suggested for online use.
